Paolo Peroni, a young artist living in Turin, moves his creative research in the natural and artificial world, in which man as intermediary and in constant evolution.
Recently graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, the artist works for thematic cycles, und with a common leitmotif.
Works tell different but equally incisive concepts expressed in his art, a strong reflection on the tension among the single person, the group and the external environment; by the individual in relation to the company, to the base element of the world in relation to its natural habitat.
Through the interplay of these matches, Paolo Peroni works arouse in the observer a tacit proximity: an innate and deep sense of awareness to human world. It is also interesting the meanings of expression used by the artist that is not immediately due to the idea that led to the job.
The following pages present the cycles Bios, Genotype & Phenotype, the embryonic work Normal and Phatological, and the last cycle Morphogenesis presented by Paolo Peroni in during 2012 and exhibited for the first time in The Others Fair, 2012, Turin.


Bios represents a sensual production of contents, resistances and objections, that proliferate and become part of the “System of Truth”.
They are throbbing matrix of our bios politicos that shows a positive desire pushing us to show ourselves; they are origin of the change. Without the practice of the resistance, without the production from the low of life forms or subjects that deny accept the current system, it is not possible to start a change that brings to an economical and political transformation of society an ourselves.
So positive and creative resistances appear always in different forms and they represent the opposite side of every form of power: there is no power without refusal.
Every Bios communicate a positive desire that brings people and each one to expose in a continue molding struggle, directly connected to its ecosystem.
What shines through is the need of a double development, moral and biological, focused on the dynamic power of tout cour change.


We could say that to the old right to make die or let live, has been replaced by a power of lat live or repulse in the death” M. Foucault.

Genotype and phenotype and environment: interaction and transformation reciprocally in three voices, where, the phenotype variation influences over the evolution for the natural selection.
If the environment takes part and become essential element of this cycle, and even the biopolitics become part of this, understood like a net of powers that manages ours body manners and regulates populations.
Man is not defined only by his genetic heritage and by phenotype that is built during his life, but this has been changed and modified in consequence of the meeting between people with the power. Meeting or better bust in of the bipolitics.
The antithetical elements Bios and Zoe, the division between single life and life of the species, it almost loose the secular contrast submitted by a stronger power.
Life, deprived of its biological side, and become involuntarily a perfect space of actions by the sovereign power pioneer of the biopolitics.

Genotype and Phenotype, it's a cycle of works composed by two types of overlapping images : the first is a cell watched by microscope, the second one is a city watched by a satellite .
Creating a visual comparison, I open a reflection around the social-biology, science based on neo-Darwinism and that studies the biological bases which determinate social behavior.
Through this sequence of works I want to express the way that this discipline studies the world: from the individual dimension, the attention is moved to the group dimension, underlining the role of the genotype in comparison with the one of the phenotype.
Social-biology, indeed, shows an image of human nature where the features of the behavior have developed mostly through the natural selection and the human behavior it's a natural consequence of the genetics difference between people.
Following this interpretative line, social sciences are linked to genetic and its laws, that now, more than ever, characterize the curing process of the person and the society.
The overlap of the microscopic and the macroscopic, that show us the same features, is the clear effect of this comprehension.

Normal and Phatological

A different ability of action, a chronology of acting that moves on spaces and time different from what we adopt to measure ourselves inside the ecosystem we live in.
The tree is a pure and uncontaminated element, with its complete adhesion and acceptance of the territory, it records faithfully the state of affairs. It becomes a sincere mirror surrounding world, declaring through its presence and shape.
The trunks explodes in a strong dissent and the cancer masses start to express a resolute subjectivity.
It explicits, through its deformed shape, the need for a struggle, at social practices and relations of power that govern our lives.
Each individual is named to constitute subjectivity determined and certain, far political protocols and panoptic society that has always been dedicated to increase the impersonality of their "subjects."
The disease of the tree stands and invites the achievement of freedom, the creation of a freedom understood as such in its true essence. Contemplate practices of asceticism and the establishment of a new collective conscience. It invites to wake up.


Morphogenesi is strictly tied to Bios, affinity recognizable on two levels: the aesthetic one, because of the bas-relief obtained in both researches using the thermoforming the polymeric layers and in the second place regarding the signifier level, “space” where the research about resistances and protests has the leading role.

The artworks of Morphogenesis cycle show an opposition to normality, rise up against the regulation in force. The normality is struggled but missing. Fight begins from the opposite, from the pathologic, indispensable and ideal element to reveal the normal functionality of the organism.
The “sick” lays bare what universally is presented as sane and he fights it, activating a subversion of standard values.
It originates then a circumstance where the absence of the biological rule is not absence or lack or negativity but became another rule and subjective, rules that do not adhere to precise models decided a priori as definite and for everyone.
