CON PURA FORMA | DANIELE BONGIOVANNI
Art News Milan
30/01/2019On January 30th, Raffaella De Chirico Contemporary Art inaugurates Con Pura Forma, a solo show by Daniele Bongiovanni, an artist born in Palermo in 1986.
The concept of the exhibition is a careful selection of paintings linked to the Aesthetica cycle, now better recognized as the cycle of white skies; or rather a path that in these years has allowed the artist to pursue, even with new color and stylistic experiments, a study on the "classical" form of the landscape, an investigation that has the constant need to be represented in the form dreamy and sometimes imponderable what can be more concrete and too predictable: natural space. Among the many unpublished works and those more or less recent, realized between 2015 and 2017, this exhibition will present one of the works of Bongiovanni exhibited at the 57th Venice Biennale of Art, Natura with Deus, a composition of thirty tables of wood (15x15cm each) in which we find a nature lived by man, but free of artificial and foreign bodies.
The art historian Marzia Ratti, present with a text in the catalog, defines the works presented by Daniele Bongiovanni in this exhibition as a natural evolution of his pictorial hypothesis that starts from figuration, understood and filtered by his needs for progressive deconstruction that in partly coincide with his interests of study, to arrive at a minimum operation that reaches the dimension of silence and mystery through paths of colored light alone.
The whites, the rarefaction, the luminous atmospheres, the misty treatment of the matter enclose the reflections that Bongiovanni continually leads to the meaning of the pictorial research that, while recalling analogous results of many contemporary authors on the analytical and conceptual paintings, draw with subtlety to the historical-artistic tradition, giving life to an abstraction that seems a fragment rethought of the 'giver in abyss' of medieval memory.
