Bruno Marrapodi
Milan, 1983Lives and works in Milan

He graduated from IED, Istituto Design Milano, specializing in product design. Later he specialized in painting. The pictorial practice of Bruno Marrapodi stems from his research on narrative and figurative representation.
His early works feature a mix of local tradition, crime and grotesque narration, with a strong influence from cinema.
In the most recent works by Bruno Marrapodi there is a radical synthesis of the descriptive elements. Some iconographic elements, such as castles and pigs, ascend to central axes of the paintings, as archetypes of an instinctive and fairytale world. Today the works appear primitive, delicate and wild at the same time.
“I paint in the way I speak: I narrate, I use anecdotes and symbolic figures, I fill the story with colors and details, with a little irony. The images emerging from my painting practice define my existence, yet they do not describe it. The world is a hostile place, so I watch it from the outside: my painting is an observation, a way of responding to the hostility of the world without entering it”.
