William Grob
London, 1992lives and works in Berlin
William Grob studied photography at Falmouth University and now lives and works in Berlin. His oil paintings feature figures in snapshots from quotidian life, either in quiet, private repose, or in transitional public spaces. There is a soft melancholy to his characters; alienation and loneliness are recurrent themes. Grob uses colours as a vivid emotional language to create rhythm and movement as much as form. Like Chagall, Grob renders fantastical scenes of marginal figures in village life; though in his playful irony, Grob never loses his engaged sense of empathy. Among his most significant solo exhibitions are In All Weathers, presented in 2025 at Nosbaum Reding Gallery in Luxembourg, and Overlaid Emotions, held in 2020 at Luisa Catucci Gallery in Berlin. On the group exhibition front, a standout is his participation in Outsiders Everywhere in 2025 at Tabula Rasa Gallery in Beijing. Also noteworthy is his presence in the 2023 exhibition Picasso 50 Years, organized by Christie’s in London.
