PAINT IT, BLACK | group-show
From 24/04/2021 To 24/04/2021
Converted into an online exhibition due to force majeure, the group exhibition Paint it, Black opens for one day only on April 24th.
By virtue of absorbing all colors, the color black has often been defined as the absence of light, a definition that implicitly points to primordial chaos, where there was no separation between light and shadow.
In Greek mythology, and specifically in Hesiod's Theogony, Chaos is the primeval entity that generated Erebus (the darkness) and Nyx (the night), from whose union Aether (the divine power of the upper sky and daylight) and Hemera (the deity representing the day) were born.
In the Bible, on the other hand, prior to the divine Fiat Lux (Genesis 1:3), the phrase spoken by God for the creation of light and the universe, the black color of darkness enveloped the earth.
In both examples, however, the initial, primordial negative connotation of black constitutes the necessary and inevitable condition for the creation of light itself, of day, and therefore of life. The group show Paint it, Black, named after the famous song by the Rolling Stones, aims to celebrate the non-color par excellence and its inherently generative power, featuring works by Sergio Ragalzi, Mohsen Baghernejad, Gisella Chaudry, and Fabio Perino.
