On 24 June Raffaella De Chirico inaugurates her new headquarters in via Farini, 2 in Milan (which flanks the Turin one) with the collective Choices, which brings together recent proposals belonging to the 2020 and 2021 program but also artists with whom the gallery has created his narration during the ten years of activity.
Choices, in Italian Scelte, is a collective exhibition of 15 artists of different generations, who present a significant work of their artistic career.
In the new space of small dimensions but with an intriguing structure located in the internal courtyard, a Plant Form made with cement, metal mesh and plaster by Mohsen Baghernejad (Tehran, 1988) welcomes visitors in the external part of the gallery, while inside the works of two other very young artists who have recently begun a collaboration with the gallery: the sculpture Punto dicontact by Gisella Chaudry (Partinico, 1989), singed polystyrene thermoformed with kitchen spoons and the Goldbread installation by Fabio Perino (Turin, 1990), a copper bar covered in gold next to a breadstick: communion and individualism dialogue with each other, the breadstick is fragile and at the same time is a figurative expression of the people. Strong because it feeds, sometimes defenseless because it can be crushed.
Nico Mingozzi (Portomaggiore, 1976) has been working for some time on vintage photography from the early 1900s with pictorial interventions and mixed techniques, totally distorting the idea of family and couple; the graphic intervention of the Mexican Eugenia Martínez (Monterrey, Mexico, 1976) is made explicit through the use of writing on the plexiglass that encloses the image, through which it focuses and at the same time hides the photographic reproduction, on vintage prints from the 1930s. By Claudia Hans (Mexico City, Mexico, 1976) on display a selection of works belonging to the Silent Songs project in which the artist intervenes on the images and texts of the original version of the book Songs for my Grandmother, in which moments from her grandmother's life and his emigration to Mexico are narrated simultaneously with what happened during the Holocaust. The research of the White corpus of works by Paolo Leonardo (Turin, 1973) also starts from the choice of a photograph, vintage or from the web, subsequently grainy and transformed and made almost totally abstract through the pictorial gesture. With a focus on the figure, the work of Carlo D'Oria (Turin, 1970) a work in iron recently presented among the works of his solo show at the Umberto Benappi gallery in Turin, small figures stuck in a plate.
The sign that becomes asemantic is present in the work Trascrizioni by Irma Blank (Celle, Germany, 1934) of 1974, and in the Stanza by Elena Modorati (Milan, 1969) made with wax, paper and ink; a geological, primordial and timeless sign that of Eva Sørensen (Hernig, Denmark 1940 - Verbania, 2020) in Untitled, a 1982 work by the ink group on paper presented at the Venice Biennale in the same year in which Eva represented Denmark in the Scandinavian pavilion . Insomnia by Sergio Ragalzi (Turin, 1951) is a work from 1993 in which the artist uses a real pillow on which he intervenes with mixed techniques and which becomes a symbol of existential malaise linked to the evil of living that can cause problems related to sleep. Related to research on rubber and industrial materials, the mixed technique on cardboard by Carol Rama (Turin 1918 - 2015) of 1977. Traditional techniques linked to fiber art decline in a peculiar and interesting way Andi Kacziba (Hungary, 1974) who with Daily Measurements creates tapestries on vintage handkerchiefs and Federica Patera (Ponte San Pietro, BG, 1982), with the work Fuoco su fuoco (mixed languages), hot stamping on cotton and thread, from 2021, dedicated to the Tower of Babel, which adds to the body of works from the Levenim exhibition, hosted at the De Chirico gallery in 2020.
